   Martine Chappuis
In contact with civilizations across the world, the eye of Martine Chappuis nourished and enriched. Her stays in Guatemala, Nigeria, Argentina, Ivory Coast, Rumania, New York, Israel, allowed her to develop a plastic work in which various cultural layers deposited, in perceptible ways.
Of paramedical education, Martine Chappuis has also a passion for the others and dedicated herself, during her different moves, to diverse and good causes.

On the artistic level, whatever the latitudes that have bathed her existence, her quests come into shape during her long walks, here and there, across natural spaces, fields and forests. A suspended branch, a piece of bended wood, crumpled or shrivelled leaves, a bird plunging, or any other elements, call her creativity, which is translated into a language of bronze, moulded, cast, buckled. The edges of the sculptures are sometimes sharp, sometimes polished, with deep carvings or slight curvings, according to the privileged aesthetic aspect decided by the artist.

Other works are impregnated with particular sonorities, inspired by a music instrument, the violin, particularly affectionate by Martine Chappuis who played since her childhood. The shape of the sculpture and its amber-colour, recall the characteristic outline and colour of the precious instrument.
Variety of free and dynamic forms, suspended, refined, evoking vegetal or morphologic shapes, the sculptures show rich patinas. From traditional green bronze, to gold bronze, gold brown, or even dark brown, the artist has taken some freedom in comparison to her masters, Brancusi and Lucacci. Each sculpture is unique, not only because of its source and far away place of creation, but also because of the original surfaces, capturing, in alternation, a subtle game of dark and light, in harmony with the surrounding.

The works of Martine Chappuis are a pluri-cultural synthesis, a journey in themselves across the world and in the heart of creation, in front of which everyone will be able to measure his part of dream and evasion.

Martine Chappuis lives and works in Etoy (Vaud ). Impregnated with different cultures inherited in the course of her numerous stays abroad, she notably studied the art of drawing in Guatemala and attended sculpture courses at the Art Students League in New York, of the sculptor Sidney Simon. She obtained the Art Students award of the jury in 1995 and 1996. Her works have been exhibited in the different places where she lived.
